0-5KM in 3 weeks – yes you can do it! I Did!

When I went to college I was fit and healthy because I had a gym to go to everyday. At college I couldn’t afford to be a member and ate and drank as well!!! One day after over indulgence and feeling sluggish - my friend said ‘come running’ – my initial reaction was NO WAY! I can’t run!!! But she said yes you can, anyone can! So the trainers went on and off to the farm track we went and stopped quite quickly and walked!!!  We repeated it day after day. Getting better, stronger and going for longer with every run and soon I was running 5KM and beyond. From that day onwards I have ran in cities, beaches, woods around the country, in the snow, in the sunshine, on Christmas day, my wedding day and whenever I feel like it!  Not being restricted to a particular time means I can always FIT IT IN! Even if it is a quick 20 mins.

Time I know is precious when you are working, juggling family etc. Running is a fantastic exercise to be able to take part in – you are not tied to class times or even anyone coming with you – you can just go!


Now it’s your turn. Anyone can run however if you have ever tried it, the first 2 minutes are a killer. This is when you feel like giving up and you can’t get your breath. At this point you think ‘I have got to stop’ and don’t carry on and possibly end up walking home. What many people don’t realise is that get past that 2 minute point and your cardiovascular system kicks in and provides the energy you need to keep going further!
